Reverse conducting IGBTs are optimised for induction cooking projects
The 20 A RC-H5 has a monolithic integrated reverse conduction diode in 20 A current class and provides up to 30 % reduction in switching losses compared to previous generations, says the company. This allows designers to use higher frequencies of up to 30 kHz. Thus, the efficiency of the system is improved by 0.5 % leading to an overall performance of the system of more than 92 %. Lowered overall system costs can also be realized by using smaller inductor choices with less copper, claims the company. The family is available in a current class of 20 A with 1200 V and 1350 V blocking voltage and is offered in a TO-247 package. The RC-H5 1350 V 20 A is ready for shipping today; the RC-H5 1200 V 20 A will be available in Q2 2014. The discrete IGBT is based on the of the company's RC-H3 technology which remains available for existing designs.
