Wideband ADC halves size and power consumption, says TI
The ADC is claimed to deliver industry-leading signal-measurement precision at wider bandwidths than competing ADCs. It is 50% smaller than earlier packages, says the company. and captures high-resolution signals with 50% wider bandwidth and 25% lower latency.

The ADC offers wideband and low-latency filter options to tailor high performance data acquisition in a range of industrial systems. Designers can use wideband mode to improve AC measurement resolution with 50% wider bandwidth, data rates up to 400ksamples/s and a 30% higher signal-to-noise ratio than competing data converters, reports the company. They are also able to minimise noise at high frequencies. In low-latency mode, it delivers 25% lower latency at up to 1,067ksample/s and 83.3% lower offset drift of 50nV/°C to optimise DC measurement resolution, data throughput and response times for data acquisition and condition monitoring.

It is intended for use in small, battery-powered industrial and means that designers do not have to choose size and measurement precision at higher frequencies, says the company. The ADS127L11 is in a 3.0 x 3.0mm quad flat no-lead (WQFN) package. The company says the single channel device is 50% smaller than the closest competing ADCs.

The ADC allows designers to add channels in a compact design to increase system functionality.

Target applications are portable electroencephalogram (EEG) machines and power-quality analysers to optimise power consumption against bandwidth requirements via power-scalable modes. Power consumption is as low as 3.3mW with sampling rates up to 50ksample/s to improve signal resolution and extend battery life.

The ADC is available as as 20-pin 3.0 x 3.0mm WQFN or a 20-pin, 6.5 x 4.4mm thin shrink small-outline package (TSSOP).
