Cooling materials will be showcased at Laser World of Photonics

At the show in Munich, Germany (26 to 29 June), Rogers Corporation's Power Electronics Solutions (PES) group will showcase its curamik cooling solutions. Alongside its curamik CoolPerformance, CoolPower and CoolEasy coolers, The company will highlight its latest high-performance cooling material, the curamik CoolPerformance Plus.

The curamik CoolPerformance Plus is an advanced liquid-cooled material designed to dissipate large amounts of heat and provide reliable thermal management of high-power laser diodes and other heat-generating optical devices.

CoolPerformance Plus coolers build upon the cooling approach of curamik CoolPerformance coolers, with several layers of pure copper, taking advantage of its excellent thermal conductivity. The copper foils are formed into hermetic, three-dimensional micro channel or macro channel water-cooled structures capable dissipating large amounts of heat in small areas, explains the company.

The curamik CoolPerformance Plus coolers also have aluminum nitride (AlN) isolation layers. The ceramic AlN layers separate the cooling water channels from the electrical contacts of laser diodes. They also provide a close match in co-efficient of thermal expansion (CTE), in the range of six to seven ppm/K, between the copper cooling structures and high-power ceramic laser diode packages for improved reliability, even at high power levels.

The mounting surfaces of the latest coolers can be diamond-milled to meet the fine tolerances required for mounting of laser diode packages, for optimum flow of heat away from the diodes.

Both cooler versions provide more efficient cooling solutions than traditional liquid-cooled methods, says the company, and can provide effective thermal-management solutions for laser diodes operating at power levels to 200W or more.

The coolers are suitable for applications in industrial, medical, and research applications, for thermal management of high-power laser diodes and diode-pumped lasers.

The bi-annual Laser World of Photonics, held 26 to 29 June 2017, in Munich, Germany, is the only trade fair that combines photonics research and industry, and is held in conjunction with the World of Photonics Congress.

Rogers PES will be exhibiting at booth B3/167.
