Voltage buck regulator reduces time-to-market with digital interface

The DC/DC regulators with I²C/PMBus interface from Infineon have an integrated PWM controller, MOSFETs and bootstrap diode, make them space-efficient, says the company, for low output voltage and high current applications. Due to the programmable digital interface with remote testing using telemetry, customers will benefit on up to 90% reduced design and test times – allowing significantly shorter time-to-market. They also reduce the board space by around 50% compared to conventional two-chip  solutions, says the company.

The regulators can be used in data centres, network storage, wireless infrastructure, mass computing or industrial automation. They can be configured via PMBus and the configuration stored in internal memory. In addition, 75 PMBus commands allow precise run-time control, fault status monitoring and telemetry of parameters like V in, V out, I out, T or P out. The synchronous buck regulators can also operate as a standard analogue regulator without any programming and can provide current and temperature telemetry in analogue format.

The IR38060 has an output current of 6 A in a PQFN5x6 package. The IR38062, IR38063 and IR38064 provide 15, 25 and 35A respectively in PQFN5x7 packages. The devices are specified for the industrial temperature range (-40 to 125°C). They support a high switching frequency of up to 1.5MHz and high telemetry accuracy (I out ±5%). The accuracy of the reference voltage is specified with 0.5%.
