DIN-rail power supplies boost productivity and reduce size

The power supplies can deliver up to 50% above rated power, which enables equipment to operate continuously during short-term overloads. They avoid disruptive shutdown-reset, and can delivere high system-demand peaks using smaller, lower-cost power supplies.

The power supplies, in 120 or 240W ratings, can be used in industrial automation, test and inspection equipment, vending systems, metering, building automation, communication or other equipment. Active power factor correction (PFC) is built in, and all units are UL508 listed, UL60950-1/IEC60950-1 certified, and CE-marked.

Slimline cases, measuring 33mm wide for the REDIN120 and 46mm for the REDN240, allow conventional mounting and leave plenty of rail space for other modules, or sideways mounting for a lower profile. Several modules can be connected in series to deliver higher power or provide redundancy. Universal AC inputs simplify design-in to equipment for worldwide markets. The Redin120 series is available with 12, 24 or 48V output. Redin240 modules have 24 or 48V output.

Efficiency is up to 92.5% for Redin120 and 94.3% for Redin240, which minimises internal heating to ensure longer sustained operation and greater reliability. The power supply units can operate from -25 to 70°C, and deliver full rated power at up to 60°C. Over-temperature, over-voltage, short-circuit, and smart overload protection are all built in. Each module has red and green LED status indicators, as well as a “power good” relay that can be used to drive a front-panel indicator or send an error signal to the PLC.

Construction comprises conformal coating, long-life electrolytic capacitors, and transformers and coils containing high-grade ferrites, which the company says ensure reliable operation in harsh environmental conditions and up to 3000m altitude. All units are backed by the manufacturer’s five-year warranty.
