Controller simplifies industrial PoL

A 40V capable switching controller, the XR75100 synchronous step-down controller, from Exar, supports PoL (point of load) supplies from industrial 24V DC and 24V AC rectified sources. The patented emulated current mode Constant on-time (COT) control scheme is claimed to deliver core voltage rails for ASICs, FPGAs, DSPs and other processors in industrial markets, such as medical, automotive and instrumentation.

The 0.008%/V line regulation across the entire input voltage range and 1% output accuracy over the full temperature range provides headroom for design implementations. The company’s control loop enables operation with ceramic output capacitors, eliminating loop compensation and reducing overall component count.

Specified input voltage range is 5 to 40V with an adjustable output voltage from 0.6 to 30V. Supervisory and protection features are for proper sequencing, safe operation under abnormal operating conditions and light load operation.

The controller is available now in a RoHS compliant, green/halogen free space-saving 16pin 3x3 QFN package.
