Macom Technology adds 4W Ka-band power amplifier
The balanced 4W power amplifier operates from 27.5 to 30GHz, suitable for satellite communications (sitcom) and very small aperture terminal (VSAT) outdoor units for satellite comms applications. The balanced design can enable consistent matching to 50Ω at the input and output.

The high-linearity Ka-Band power amplifiers gives system designers’ a consistent match regardless of their board impedance, says the company which has identified changes in fixed wired networks as well as terrestrial wireless networks and sitcom to meet the demand for high speed, broadband, data connectivity. As the requirements for increased data rates and bandwidth continue to drive higher power, higher frequency and higher linearity monolithic microwave ICs (MMICs), the company has added the 4W amplifier to its catalogue and custom satcom offerings.

The company now offers 2.0, 2.3, 3.0, 4.0 and 7.0W power output options spanning frequencies ranging from 27 to 31.5GHz. These GaAs-based Ka-Band PAs can provide strong linear gain, to enable customers to efficiently increase the power from the input to the output port with minimal tradeoffs.

The 4.0W, four-stage power amplifier is assembled in a lead-free 5.0mm 32-lead AQFN plastic package. It provides 24dB of linear gain, 4.0W saturated output power and output IP3 of 41dBm while biased at 6.0V.

It can be used as a power amplifier stage or as a driver stage in higher power applications.
