Compact DC/DC converter is industry-first

The devices are designed specifically for oil and gas exploration downhole tools and can withstand high temperature and high shock environments.

The family has multiple output voltage options and the hermetic hybrid packaging technology enables a compact form factor of 1.0 x 3.82inch long (including the flange) and 0.41inch high. This is a space saving of approximately 20% compared to a PCB-based product, claims the company.

DC/DC converters typically use optical feedback which is not practical at 185ºC. The proprietary, magnetically coupled, feedback topology and an IC developed to address this functionality reduce component count and size.

The 5W, 28V input isolated DC/DC converters offer 69% minimum efficiency up to 185ºC and feature internal input and output filters, low input quiescent current and overcurrent protection. The HTB28 series passed 1,200 hours at 185ºC - most downhole applications require 1,000 hours.

The HTB2805SB is available immediately. Other parts in the Series will be available next quarter.
