Bourns expands SSA-2 series analogue current sensors with AEC-Q compliant assembly option
Bourns has announced that its SSA-2 Series analog current sensors are now available with an AEC-Q compliant components assembly option.

The company says the addition targets engineers developing high-reliability power systems where component qualification is a formal requirement—giving them a path to AEC-Q compliance without rebuilding their qualification process from the ground up.

In automotive, industrial, and energy applications, passive devices operating under harsh conditions—temperature cycling, vibration, and mechanical shock—are routinely required to meet AEC-Q qualification standards. For design teams working against tight program timelines, the qualification process itself can become a bottleneck. AEC-Q compliant component sourcing also aligns with automotive OEM requirements and supports PPAP and automotive validation workflows, reducing compliance risk at the system level.

“The SSA-2 Series already delivers the accuracy and stability that demanding power applications require. Adding an AEC-Q compliant assembly option means engineers working in automotive and high-reliability environments can specify the SSA-2 with greater confidence in their qualification path,” says Javier Navarro, Product Engineer Manager Sensors & Controls, Bourns.

Key capabilities are said to include:

  • AEC-Q compliant assembly option simplifies the qualification process and reduces compliance risk in high-reliability application designs
  • High-accuracy current measurement with very low insertion loss across the full operating range
  • Electrically isolated signal output provides safety separation between the measurement circuit and the power path
  • Integrated shunt and signal conditioning in a compact package reduces board space and component count
  • High bandwidth capability handles fast current transients without signal distortion
  • Excellent linearity and thermal stability maintained across demanding environmental conditions

Target Applications:

  • DC-DC converters and battery management systems (BMS)
  • Motor drives and industrial power control systems
  • Power distribution units in automotive and commercial vehicle platforms
