DrMOS devices set new benchmarks for graphics
They are claimed to set new performance benchmarks for high performance graphics add-in cards and gaming notebooks. The AOZ531x DrMOS family targets multi-phase voltage regulators (VRs) powering high-performance graphics processor unit (GPU) and memory in desktop add-in graphics cards (AICs) and gaming notebooks.

The AOZ531xQI series uses the company’s latest generation of Gen Alpha MOSFET technology to provide the benchmark performance in a 5.0 x 5.0mm QFN package.

The MOSFETs are robust to support high peak currents common in a GPU multi-phase VR. All devices in the AOZ531xQI family have high peak current capability, up to 120A for 10µs and 80A for 10 milliseconds.

“The latest GPUs from industry leaders like AMD and Nvidia require the support of high frame rates, ray tracing, and multiple high-resolution screens to offer an immersive gaming experience,” explained Peter Cheng, power IC senior marketing director, at AOS.

“An efficient, robust power stage plays a critical role in a graphics card performance as the heat sink on a high-performance graphics card touches both the GPU as well as the power stages,” he said. “Cooler operation results in higher peak performance of the card, and directly translates to a better gaming experience.”

The AOZ531xQI family of DrMOS supports both add-in card (12V input) and gaming laptop (20V input) input voltage operating range. There are three performance levels (50A, 60A, and 65A) to allow trade-offs in the current/phase and number of phases, with a 2.5 to 20V DC operating range for the AOZ5311, AOZ5312 and AOZ5313QI.

The DC operating range for the AOZ5316, AOZ5317 and AOZ5318QI is 2.5 to 25V.

The AOZ531xQI family is 3.3 and 5V pulse width modulation (PWM) logic-compatible and has true high impedance input at PWM when disabled for phase shedding operation. It also has the ability to enable or disable diode emulation. A thermal warning indicator is also included.

The AOZ531xQI series is immediately available in production quantities with a lead-time of 12 weeks.
